College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics

Faculty Position: Physics

Location: Hickory, North Carolina

The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics seeks applications for a part-time (adjunct) faculty appointment beginning in August 2024.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

Selected candidates will be responsible for teaching undergraduate coursework, from 3 to 10 hours per semester. Contracts will be issued on a per-semester basis. Compensation will be based on classroom contact hours. A minimum of a master’s degree in physics or a closely related field is required. The degree must be awarded before the start date of this position. Responsibilities include course content preparation and delivery, maintaining office hours, student performance evaluation, and the provision of timely feedback. Courses may include introductory astronomy, conceptual physics, and/or general physics. Face-to-face delivery is preferred but online delivery and virtual office hours will be considered. Successful candidates will display a commitment teaching excellence, including an ability to accommodate a variety of learning styles and a sensitivity to a diverse student population. Additionally, the successful candidate will display a commitment to student mentorship, collaborative work, professional engagement, and a dedication to strong institution-wide citizenship.

The College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics provides current and practical knowledge and skills that prepares students for a successful STEM career. The college offers eleven undergraduate degrees: biochemistry, biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering physics (biophysics and traditional focuses), environmental science and policy, information technology, mathematics, medical studies, pre-engineering, and pre-medical science.
