Internship Description:
The Development Associate is responsible for supporting Operation Homefront’s Development Department in various individual/corporate/foundation fundraising, special events, marketing, and donor relations efforts conducted in the Arlington, Virginia office. The Development Associate reports to the Senior Manager, Corporate Partnerships. Specific tasks and assignments will require collaboration with multiple members of the Development team. Additionally, this position will support the development and implementation of Operation Homefront’s new diversity and inclusion strategy. All interns will complete and present a brief post-internship report on their experiences, which will be shared with key Operation Homefront staff and partners, as well as senior leadership. Interns will complete weekly reports on their activity to be submitted to their supervisors.

Responsibilities may include projects within the following Development Department teams (but are not limited to):

1. Corporate and Foundation Partnerships
2. Individual Giving & Donor Relations
3. Special Events
4. Marketing & Communications
5. Other Development responsibilities as assigned

• Verification of internship hours for academic credit (if requested)

• Training in applicable databases and tools
• Supervision by Senior Manager, Corporate Partnerships
• Mid and final review to optimize Intern experience
• Letter of recommendation upon successful completion of internship
• Participation in “Business Survey” conversations regarding the intersection of nonprofit programming, racial equity, and economic prosperity
• Engage with organizational coalitions and partners through diversity and inclusion coalition development

Qualifications:
• Full-time enrollment in an accredited college or University
• Interest in non-profit management, development, fundraising, marketing, special events or donor relations
• Ability to commit a minimum of 10 hours per week on a regular, mutually agreeable schedule
• Ability to work remotely with a stable internet connection for the entire duration of the internship
• Excellent critical thinking, research, and organizational skills
• Strong writing, content creation and editing skills
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to speak knowledgably about assigned tasks and to be vocal about challenges that may arise during completion
• Flexible and adaptable style; Interest in participating in a wide range of projects
• Has the ability and confidence to engage with others at varying levels of an organization, both internally and externally.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail; must be organized and efficient in the management of projects and tasks
• A professional and resourceful style; the ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time

Additional Skills Required:
• The Development Associate is flexible in approach, is an innovative and strategic thinker, and is a true team player
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Mac or Windows) and possesses a keen ability to conduct research
